Love occurs when two beings give everything they are to each other. Doctrine and Covenants 88:43-44 state:
43 And their courses are fixed, even the courses of the heavens and the earth, which comprehend the earth and all the planets.
44 And they give light to each other in their times and in their seasons, in their minutes, in their hours, in their days, in their weeks, in their months, in their years—all these are one year with God, but not with man.
My favorite part of these verses is: and they give light to each other.
If I had any marriage advice to give, it would be this: to look into each others' eyes. The ultimate form of respect is to look a person in their eyes, and no marriage can die where two people respect themselves and each other enough to gaze into each others eyes and give light to each other.
Jesus Christ gave everything He has to us. Everything that Jesus Christ is; He willingly offers to us. He suffers everything we suffer. He endured all our pains, even our pain of complete or partial physical and spiritual death. He shed blood from every pore in Gethsemane, and He died for us on the cross on Calvary. He is eternally patient as we choose to engage His love by giving our darkness to Him in exchange for His light. This is repentance.
He bears our burden, the burden of our sins, sorrow, loneliness, hate, darkness, and dispair. In return, we bear His burden, which is light and easy. As we offer ourselves to Him, we receive His image in our countenance. The burden of our sins leave as we are filled with His love, warmth, and light. This is God's great glory. He loves it when we give our broken selves to Him. He loves relating to us. He loves us so much and He loves leading us to further love and purity.
There is nothing we can do to separate ourselves from Him. Even complete spiritual death does not make us invisible to His love for us. The only thing we can do to stay away from Him is to not offer ourselves to Him and receive his offering of Himself to be in us. In other words, the only crime of perdition is the choice to eternally stay away from Jesus and His love and light.
The answer to evil, is to offer it to Jesus Christ, who will take get rid of it for us and replace it with His love for us. His light will fill our darkness.
I am convinced that the reason we are asked to love others, is because it brightens our ability to love ourselves. It is hard to think God is forgiving and loving, if you are harming those near you. After all, people you hurt are only a projection of the way you feel about yourself. If you can love yourself, you can come near to God, and you can start having genuine relationships with others based on love and forgiveness.
I think a lot of people will find God when they realize that though Satan abandoned them in the end, God never did. God is always with us and He loves us. He knew that commandments would be broken. He knew tears would be cried. He knew we would despise ourselves at times for our own wretchedness. We can give these feelings to God. He will embrace us. He will never turn a soul away. He only pleads that we learn from our mistakes, and to not desire to do them again.
We are just learning. It is always safe to approach His light with a sincere heart. No matter how dark we may feel that we are. Once we feel His powerful love for us, we will do anything for it. Love is the most powerful force in the universe. Truly it endures all things. God's love for us endures all things.
